We have reached an agreement with the Flat Rock Board of Education to temporarily pause the demolition of the Reading Building until May 8, 2023. Preservation funds need be found and a plan proposal put together for the long term use of the building.
The Reading Building was built in 1911 and many generations of Flat Rock students have passed through its doors. If it is demolished, we will lose one of the few remaining historic buildings left in Flat Rock.
Please help us save the building by donating via paypal or checks can be written to the Flat Rock Historical Society and mailed to the Flat Rock Historical Society, c/o Restore Reading, P.O. Box 337, Flat Rock, MI 48134.
Letβs go π, LETS GOOOO!

It would simply not be the same town without this landmark. My mother went to school in this building and it was the Administration building for Flat Rock schools for my entire life.
